Sermon Notes:
7/5/2026 Misery Part 2 Rom. 1:18-32
Intro: Review Misery Part 1: Not Right: Unable to keep God’s Law, inclined to hate God and our neighbor.
Q #6 Did God Create man wicked and perverse?
A #6 No, but God created man good and after his own image, that is, in righteousness and true holiness, that he might rightly know God is Creator, heartily love him, and live with Him in eternal Happiness, to praise and glorify Him.
- Our Creation (Not a Manufacturer Error)
- Created Good and Righteous = Right relationship with God. (Pleasing in every way) Gen. 1:31
- We were created Righteous (Adam and Eve) Gen. 1:27
- In God’s image: To know Him, Love Him, and Live with Him eternally.
- God wants his creation to know him.
- Psalm 19, Romans 1:20, Ecc. 3:11
Q #7 From where, does this depraved nature of man come?
A #7 From the fall and disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve, in Paradise, whereby our nature became so corrupt that we are all conceived and born in sin.
- Our Corruption
- Godlessness and Wickedness = Rejection of God
- Rom. 1:18-23
- By nature we don’t love Him, though he is worthy of our Love.
- We don’t thank Him, though he is the source of all good things.
- We don’t worship the One True God, instead created things.
- Idolatry (Commandment #1 Rejection of God for another)
- Often think this doesn’t apply to us, but we couldn’t be more wrong
- Sports, Recreation, Children, Spouse, Entertainment, Job, House, Money, Us
- Consequences of our Idolatry
- Freedom in Sin leads to Slavery to Sin.
- Eternal wrath (Separation from God)
- Giving us what we “want”
- Rom. 1:24-31
- Cultural Examples from Paul: Unnatural Relations (Homosexuality)
- “Surely this doesn’t apply to me”
- Read the rest of the list (All these things are Unnatural and Debased)
- Once we Reject God(Idolatry) the door is open to every kind of sin.
Q #8 But are we so depraved that we are completely incapable of any good and prone to all evil?
A #8 Yes, unless we are born again by the Spirit of God.
- Our Recreation 2 Cor. 5:17
- Our Story does not end in Genesis 3
- Promise, Covenant, Incarnation, Redemption, Recreation
- True Freedom = Free from slavery to sin; to live the life you were created for.
- Know God, Love God, Live with him.
