7/26/2026 Justification Galatians 2:11-21
Intro: Q and A #60 How are we Righteous before God?
- Paul’s Letter to the Galatians
- Background and Theme: Know the true gospel.
- Gal. 1:6
- Paul confronts Peter
- Paul is commissioned to the Gentiles.
- Peter is commissioned to the Jews.
- Antioch Situation
- Paul calls Peter out publicly.
- Peter’s Hypocrisy has impacted others in the church.
- Jesus + Jewish customs/laws = Justification
- Galatians 3:28 (All are one in Christ Jesus)
- Q and A #60 How are we Righteous before God?
Justification: Act of God by which He declares you righteous, acquits you of all guilt and punishment, and grants you right to eternal life.
- Courtroom Scene
- God is the just judge.
- Accuser levels accusations
- Sinner today, Sinner yesterday, Sinner tomorrow.
- Defense: Faith in Christ.
- Who has fully satisfied the wrath of God. (Romans 3:23-25)
- Who has imputed to me his righteousness. (2 Cor. 5:21)
- As if I have never sinned.
- Who makes me holy.
- Received through Faith in Jesus.
- Galatians 2:15-16: Faith in Christ, not works of the law.
- But what if…(Gal. 2:17)
- Galatians 1:20 I have been Crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
#60 Q. How are you righteous before God?
#60 A. Only by true faith in Jesus Christ. Even though my conscience accuses me of having grievously sinned against all God’s commandments, of never having kept any of them, and of still being inclined toward all evil, nevertheless, without any merit of my own, out of sheer grace, God grants and credits to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ, as if I had never sinned nor been a sinner, and as if I had been as perfectly obedient as Christ was obedient for me. All I need to do is accept this gift with a believing heart.
