First Reformed Church, thank-you for a wonderful gift of $1727, through your Vacation Bible School! Here is a sentence in a recent newsletter we sent out: “A well-rounded, fulfilling life as a child of God needs quiet times alone with God, and perhaps with a few close faith-friends, along with activities “outside,” beyond our comfortable zones.” We especially welcome fine supporters like you to allow us to bless you back, through hanging out with us---Mogadishu Store, a Nepali restaurant, talking to African men at the park---for fun, educational, cross-cultural experiences. That can be done for one person, up to 10 people. Let us know if that is of interest. ---Fred Wilgenburg, New Roots Ministry, Sioux Falls

7/12/2026                                     God’s Response to Sin                  Rom. 5:6-11

Intro: Created Good and In God’s Image…then Sinned.   What is God’s Response to Sin?

Q #12 Since, according to God's righteous judgment we deserve temporal and eternal punishment, how can we escape this punishment and be again received into favor?

A #12 God demands that his justice be satisfied. Therefore, we must make full payment, either by ourselves or through another.

  1. God’s Justice Revealed
    1. Wrath of God for Sin. Reveals his Just Character
      1. Gen. 3 Adam, Eve, and All Creation.
      2. John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
      3. God is good, because God is Just.

  1. Our response to God’s Justice
    1. Ignore/Deny: Maximize pleasure and Avoid pain. (Medicate)
    2. Appease and Sacrifice
      1. Be more good than bad…earn it.

Q #13 Can we by ourselves make this payment?

A #13 Certainly not. On the contrary, we daily increase our debt.

  1. Humility, Confession, and Repentance.
    1. Moses
    2. Isaiah
    3. Paul

  1. God’s Love Revealed
    1. Demonstration of his love (Rom. 5:6-8)
      1. God’s Love does not contradict his Justice but rather fulfills his Justice.

  1. Who is Jesus?
    1. Fully Man…(Born of a woman, broken body and world, yet without sin.)
      1. Worthy Sacrifice on our behalf.
    2. Fully God…(Conceived of the Holy Spirit, Conquered Death)
      1. Resurrection and Eternal Life.

  1. Our Response is Humility, Confession and Repentance.

Q #19 From where do you know this?

A #19 From the holy gospel, which God himself first revealed in Paradise. Later, he had it proclaimed by the patriarchs and prophets and foreshadowed by the sacrifices and other ceremonies of the law. Finally, he had it fulfilled.

  1. How Do we know this?
    1. God’s Special Revelation
      1. Bible and Life of Christ.
      2. Share the Good News of Jesus.
Blog comments will be sent to the moderator
