   MEMBERSHIP RETREAT:  If you or someone you know is interested in joining First Reformed Church by Profession of Faith, there is a Membership Retreat scheduled for September 26, 12-4pm.   Please Contact Cheryl Van Beek (frccheryl@premieronline.net) John Metzger, or call the church office (712-472-3729) for more information.

 

Coming Soon: Bible League’s Spreading the Fragrance of life dinner is Monday evening, September 20. The daylong conference is Tuesday, September 21. Both events will be held at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Register online at bibleleague.org/tickets. Cost $20 for dinner; $40 for conference. 

 

 Library News from the Librarians: We have added some very intriguing, interesting, and entertaining books and moves for young and old. Come check out the library. We have noticed that some items are being taken without being checked out. Please fill the card out in the front of the book, or the back of the movie and leave the card in the designated box. Also, the following books and movies have not been returned for a long time. Please check your home to see if you have them.  Movies: The Princess and the Popstar, Puppies & Guppies, Abe & the Amazing Promise, God Made You Special.  Books: Richard Scarry’s Best Storybook, Forest Friends Help Each Other, October Baby, When We Were Young, The Hole In our Gospel, Evidence Not Seen, and Evolution Exposed.

~It’s Operation Christmas Child time once again…and Back-to-School Sales are in full swing! It’s a great time to stock up on items for our OCC Packing Party on November 10th.  Please visit the information table in the gathering space where you will find a supply sign-up. Items are requested to be at church no later than Sunday, October 31st. Please also prayerfully consider packing a shoebox (or two!) on your own. Shoeboxes are available for you to use. Thank you for your support!

ATTENTION: Welcome Back Grace Circle members! Also, welcome to anyone who might have an interest in an awesome circle. A reorganizational planning meeting will meet at Jean Fick’s home on Tuesday, September 21st at 6:30. Mark your calendars ahead. Any questions? Call or message Jean @ 712-540-8564.

Thank you: to everyone who donated their gently used Christian Literature in the past weeks. Most of the donations were Bibles, Bible Study books, daily devotionals, books and Sunday School materials. 39 boxes of material were taken to the drop off site at the Sioux Center First Reformed Church. All of the material collected in Sioux Center was taken to the International Christian Literature Distributors in Minneapolis over the Labor Day weekend. ICLD, which is run completely by volunteers, will send our donations throughout the world to spread God’s word. There is a collection box under the south coat rack for any donations you may have during the year. We encourage you to drop off your old “Words of Hope” in the box when you receive a new one. The list of items that can be used is posted above the box.

*Justice for All is having their Annual Meeting and Fall Auction on Thursday, October 28 at 530p in the Parkview Event Center – Rock Valley, IA.  There will be an update about the ministry, short business meeting, and a live auction with Mark Zomer and Doug Kooima.  Enjoy a meal and fellowship while supporting Justice for All ministry.   Thursday October, 28 530p Parkview Event Center, don’t miss out!

*Fish Boil Dinner: Peace Lutheran Church, 902 S. Carroll St. Rock Rapids, IA, would like you to invite you to a Fish boil dinner on Sunday October 3, from 11:30-12:30pm. A free will offering will be taken for the Orphan Grain Train. Everyone is welcome to attend.

~~Dordt University’s Mondays Speaker Series presents Rev. Dr. Jennifer Powell McNutt, the Franklin S. Dyrness Associate Professor of Biblical and Theological Studies at Wheaton College. Dr. McNutt’s research specializes in the history of the church and Christian Theology from the Reformation through the Enlightenment with particular expertise in John Calvin and his clerical legacy, the Reformed tradition, the relationship between Christianity and science, and the history of the Bible and its interpretation. Please join us at 11 a.m., Monday, September 27 in the BJ Haan Auditorium for her presentation, “Making Space for the Dead in Conversations of Faith and Science.” This event is free and open to the public. The families of Dale Klarenbeek and Mike Klarenbeek in the passing of their nephew, Adam.  Adam went to Jesus on Tuesday, September 14, after a 21 month battle with cancer.

The family and friends of Jake Dieter, a second grader at West Lyon who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.  Please continue to pray for his family, friends, classmates and the West Lyon Community,
