Rules within Relationship                 Deuteronomy 5:1-10

Intro: Commandments are always given within Relationship

1. Covenant with Abraham and Descendants. 
1. God’s Promise is to be Shield and Reward, 
1. Salvation, Protection, Direction and Provision

1. Israel’s Promise: Trust God (faithful obedience)
1. We love him because he first loved us. (1 John 4:19)

1. History of the Covenant 
1. Slavery, 40 years in Wilderness, Moses’ Sermon

1. Covenant is with You!  All God’s people!
1. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. (I am God, you are not.)

1. My commands are given within my love relationship with you.

1. No other gods before me
1. Idols are anything we worship or put in the place of God. 
1. How do we worship: Money, Time, Priorities, Sacrifice. (Love)

1. What gods do we put in place of God?
1. Sports, Academics, Spouse, Kids, Sex, Food, Ourselves

1. Our culture gives us lots of options, but the most promoted is the god of ME!
1. Pride: What I want is more important than God’s word. 

1. Do not make for yourself an image…
1. When you make an image of God…
1. Worship the image or give false/limited view of God to the world. 

1. Warnings to Parents (God is Jealous)
1. Punishment to the 3^rd and 4^th Generation (those who hate him)
2. But showing love to thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands. 
3. Most things are caught, not taught.
2. Impact of Faithful witness is greater than an evil witness.
