IN CHRIST THERE IS NO
EAST OR WEST
Galatians 3:26-29; Revelation 7:9-12
Introduction:Worshipping last Sunday in an international church reminds me that the Christian church is universal. All who are in Christ are God’s children by adoption which overcomes three main dividers of people.
I.ETHNICITY AND RACE:“Neither Jew nor Greek”
A.The First Great Struggle in the Christian Church
1.Gentiles included (Acts 11:18)
2.Barriers broken down (Ephesians 2:14)
B.Division Over Race Continues Today
II.SOCIAL STATUS:“Neither Slave nor Free”
A.Social Class Structures
Wealth and material
B.Paul is not Defending Slavery
C.Social Rank Does Not Exist in the Church
III.GENDER:“Neither Male nor Female”
A.Women Viewed as Inferior and Treated Poorly
B.Equality of Sexes
C.Reversing the Curse (Genesis 1:27; 3:16)
Note:These distinctions still exist but in the church do not define us.The only distinctions in the church between spiritual gifts and functions.
Conclusion:Christians are all “one in Christ” and belong to each other in such a way that these differences are no longer significant and should not divide us.
