HOW TO STOP JUDGING OTHERS

James 4:11-12; Matthew 7:1-6

Introduction:   When we judge and condemn others, we are putting ourselves in God’s place.  Judgmentalism is un-Christian, un-loving and slanderous.

  1. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING JUDGMENTAL AND DISCERNING
  1. Discernment (“to separate”)
  1. To see things as they are
  2. To make distinctions between
  3. Motive:   love and humility
  1. Judgmental (“to judge against”)
  1. To condemn as a final authority
  2. Motive:   pride and superiority
  1. WHEN WE ARE BEING JUDGMENTAL
  1. When Based on Outward Appearances (John 7:24; Colossians 2:16)
  2. When We Judge People’s Motives (1 Cor. 4:5)
  3. Before We Hear the Facts (John 7:51)
  4. When It Causes Me to Speak Evil of a Brother or Sister (James 4:11)
  5. When It Blinds Me to My Own Faults (Mt 7:3-5; Romans 2:1-3)

  1. Remember You Will Be Judged by the Same Standard (Mt 7:1-2)
  2. Remember We are All Accountable to God (James 4:12)
  3. Remember God’s Mercy to You (James 2:13)

Conclusion:   Can you catch yourself in the coming days when you are being judgmental and bring to mind the principles of your accountability to God and His mercy toward you?
