GROWING IN PEACE

Romans 6:1-14

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18

Introduction: If grace is free and unconditional is it OK to keep on sinning so God can give us more and more grace? The Bible answers: NO! The more I experience God’s grace the less I will want to sin.

  • I.FOUR PHASES OF SALVATION
  • A.Regeneration/Rebirth (being made spiritual alive to God)
  • B.Justification (being free from the condemnation of sin)
  • C.Sanctification (becoming free from sin’s power and growing spiritually)
  • D.Glorification (being free from sin’s presence in heaven)
  • Positional Truth: What God says is true about me
  • Experiental Truth: When I begin to see myself as God sees me
  • II.THE “FACTS” OF THE LIFE OF GRACE
    A. I Am “In Christ” (vv. 3-5)
  • B. I Am “Crucified with Christ” (v. 6)
  • C. I Am “Freed from Sin” (v. 7)

III. THE “ACTS” OF THE LIFE OF GRACE

  • A.Reckon: Believe and See Myself as God Sees Me. (v. 1)
  • B.Resist: Say No to Sinful Impulses (vv. 12, 13a; Titus 2:12)
  • C.Render: Offer/Surrender My Body, Mind and Will to God. (vv. 13b-14)

Conclusion: This is a process of growth and maturity. Growth is not trying to do good, living by rules or feeling bad. Grace gives us wings to fly above the gravitational pull of sin.
