Prayers:Your prayer support is appreciated for the following individuals and their special circumstances: John Van Aartsen (recovering at home from a heart procedure on August 15), Myron Krull (recovering from knee replacement surgery), Aubree Boender (pray for patience and healing of Aubree’s broken arm), Arietta Beyenhof (recovering from hip replacement surgery), Greg De Jong (recovering from bypass surgery), Sue Faber (recovering at home), Asher Menning (continue to pray about the blood clot in Asher’s right atrium), Mykenah Horstman (pray that Mykenah’s spinal cord will not re-tether), Twilla Hoekstra (recovering from surgery), Pam Foster, Bob Dreke’s sister (coping with Huntington’s Disease), Donna Hulshof (transitioning to Hospice care), Russ Carver, Rachelle Johnsen’s father (recovering from surgery), Tony Schoneveld, Jessica Harman’s grandfather (has stage 4 COPD), and Jack Gable, Allison Van Aartsen’s father (has returned home to Ortonville, MN; is continuing to receive treatment for myasthenia gravis).

Your prayers are also requested for the following individuals who are coping with cancer: Gert Van Roekel (Laurine Gerritsen’s mother), Gail Hartter (Eric Hartter’s mother), Steve & Dave Kwikkel (Arnie and Donna Kwikkel’s sons), and Marilyn Kuyper (Ethanie Pulscher’s aunt).

Prayer Updates: Tanner Lincecum’s surgery on August 10 at Mayo Hospital in Rochester was successful! Tanner was able to return home on August 12. Dawn Vanden Top’s recent medical procedure for her liver function was also successful. Dawn is scheduled to have surgery on August 28 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Sympathy: We extend our sympathy to Erick Erickson and his children Alex, Kael, and Oliver on the death of Briana Erickson on August 11. Bri’s funeral was held last Wednesday, August 15, here at First Reformed Church.

Baptism: Today it is our joy to welcome into the family of First Reformed Church Evan John Vander Zee, the som of Joe and Meredith, through the sacrament of baptism.

Congratulations to Coryn (Van Beek) & Eric Clausen who were united in marriage yesterday here at First Reformed.

NEW Care Elders! This is a reminder of our NEW Care Elders training today, August 19, from 4:00-5:30 pm. We will meet in room 345 near the Children’s Center in the lower level of our church. I’m so thankful for each one of you, and I’m excited to get you started in your Care Elder ministry! --Sue Haggar

Praise Team: We will be singing at the outdoor service at the west side park on August 26. We will have practice this Wednesday, August 22, at 7:30 pm in the sanctuary to prepare for the outdoor service. Hope to see you there! --Sue and Denise

Christian Literature is being collected by our church for use in spreading God’s word throughout the world. A list of acceptable material is included in the last issue of The Bridge. The list will also be posted above the collection boxes which will be under the south coat rack from Aug 1 – 19th. Thank you for sharing your unused Christian material.

CONSISTORY reconvenes on Wednesday, August 22. 7 PM elders and deacons meet separately and full Consistory meets at 8 PM. Due to all that went on last week it was decided to put it back a week, thank you.

Church will be held at West Side Park on August 26, 2018. We will be joined by Rods ‘n Rides, breakfast will start at 9:30 am with the services following at 10:30 am. Please bring a lawn chair and plan to join us.

Advance NoticeWomen’s Ministry Executive Committee will meet at 7:00 pm on Monday, August 27 in room 345. This meeting is for all officers, chairpersons, and circle leaders. Please plan to attend or have someone else represent your group. It is important to get input from everyone. An agenda will be placed in your mailboxes. Please take your 2018 Women’s Ministry Booklet along.

Looking Ahead: Back-to-School sales are in full swing which makes it the perfect time to purchase Operation Christmas Child shoebox supplies! There is an insert in today’s bulletin with a list of needed items for our packing party on November 14th as well as a sign-up sheet on the table in the gathering space. A small shoebox gift can change the heart of one child and in turn an entire family or even village for Christ. One box = and eternal impact! Please consider contributing to this event. Thank you!

Women’s Ministries Night of Renewal: Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 7:00 pm. Come and kick start your fall activities and be challenged by our guest speaker Marilyn Moser, author of “Code to Grace”. Refreshments to follow in the fellowship hall.

Put some spice in your life with the Women’s Connection on Wednesday, August 22 @9:15am in the Whispering Heights Senior Center. Jane Shroyer will be the inspirational speaker with “Make Lemonade from Lemons of Life” and provide the music. Bonnie De Ruyter will share her Guatemala Mission experiences for the feature. An offering will be received for Stonecroft Ministries. Brunch is $4.00. Reservations are essential and call Winifred at 470-5549 or Bertha at 476-2583 if you would like to come!

Justice For All: JFA will be sending a truck full of supplies to Grace Reigns our partner ministry that is located in Colorado City, Arizona. Our supplies help supply the Grace Reigns thrift store and they in turn help people in the community transition out of the FLDS community. We are looking for a few people to join us on this trip to assist with our truck and help our partners at their thrift store. The trip will take place the first week in September, most likely flying or driving out on Tuesday, September 4. Contact Luke Grooters at 712-476-2804 if you are interested.

NISO Auditions for membership in the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra will be held on Friday, September 7 (Winds & Percussion) and Saturday, September 8 (Strings). Anyone wishing to play in the orchestra for the first time must audition, and all student members need to re-audition each year. For more information or to schedule an audition, contact the NISO office at niso@dordt.edu or 712-722-6230.
